Bakuchiol

Origin

Bakuchiol is a naturally occurring botanical compound derived from the seeds of the babchi plant, Psoralea corylifolia, a flowering plant belonging to the legume family. The active compound is carefully isolated and purified to create a concentrated, oil-soluble ingredient for use in skincare.

Although Bakuchiol is often compared with retinol, it is not a form of vitamin A and is chemically distinct from retinoids.

How AREUM Uses It

We use Bakuchiol at 1% in Grace Facial Oil, where it works alongside rosehip, sea buckthorn, camellia, jojoba, meadowfoam, squalane and vitamin E.

Its oil-soluble nature allows it to sit naturally within Grace, transforming the facial oil from a purely nourishing blend into a considered treatment for skin that is changing, evolving and carrying time.

Why AREUM Chose Bakuchiol

We chose Bakuchiol because it reflects the philosophy behind Grace: caring for the skin through time without treating aging as something to resist. As a plant-derived alternative to retinol, Bakuchiol offers a gentle yet effective way to support the visible signs of aging, with research suggesting it can help improve the appearance of fine lines, uneven tone and pigmentation.

It is also generally better tolerated than retinol, with a lower likelihood of dryness, scaling or irritation. This makes it a natural fit for Grace, allowing the formula to deliver meaningful, targeted care while maintaining the soft, comforting character we wanted from a facial oil designed for daily use.
