Bakuchiol

Bakuchiol is a plant-derived active traditionally sourced from the babchi plant (Psoralea corylifolia). While it isn’t vitamin A (so it’s not technically a retinoid), research suggests it can support similar skin-renewal pathways associated with retinol.

In a 12-week, randomized, double-blind clinical study, topical 0.5% bakuchiol improved the appearance of facial photoageing (including wrinkles and hyperpigmentation) comparably to 0.5% retinol, with fewer reports of irritation such as stinging and scaling.

At AREUM, we use bakuchiol to support the look of smoother texture, refined tone, and quiet firmness—an ingredient chosen for consistent, everyday ritual. (As with all actives, patch test first and wear SPF daily.)
