Hyaluronic Acid
Origin
Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring sugar molecule found throughout the human body, including within the skin, connective tissue and joints. In the skin, it forms part of the extracellular matrix and plays an important role in maintaining hydration, softness and flexibility.
The form used by AREUM is Sodium Hyaluronate, the sodium salt of Hyaluronic Acid. It is created through the biofermentation of glucose derived from corn rather than being extracted from animal sources. Sodium Hyaluronate is water-soluble, allowing it to disperse evenly through a lightweight, water-based serum.
How AREUM Uses It
We use Hyaluronic Acid in Guardian Antioxidant Serum as part of its layered hydration system.
It works alongside organic aloe vera juice, glycerine, Sodium PCA and vitamin B5 to help attract and retain moisture at the skin’s surface. Together, these ingredients provide balanced hydration while preserving Guardian’s fresh, light feel and ability to layer comfortably beneath facial oils and moisturisers.
Why AREUM Chose Hyaluronic Acid
We chose Hyaluronic Acid because effective antioxidant care begins with well-hydrated skin. When the skin lacks water, it can feel tight, appear dull, and make fine dehydration lines more noticeable. As a highly effective humectant with a natural affinity for water, Hyaluronic Acid helps attract and retain moisture within the skin’s surface layers.
Rather than relying on it as a standalone hero ingredient, we paired it with complementary humectants and skin-conditioning agents that support hydration in different ways. This creates a more balanced formula and a softer, more comfortable finish. We also chose a fermentation-derived form suitable for Guardian’s water-based, oil-free system, delivering meaningful moisture support without adding richness, weight, or a greasy residue.
