INCI: Sodium Phytate
Origin
Sodium Phytate is a plant-derived ingredient made from phytic acid, a naturally occurring compound found in grains, seeds and rice bran. It is a chelating agent, meaning it binds to trace metals such as iron and copper that can affect the stability and quality of skincare formulations.
The form used by AREUM is a water-soluble sodium salt of phytic acid, valued for its ability to support formulation stability at very low concentrations.
How AREUM Uses Them
We use Sodium Phytate in Guardian Antioxidant Serum and Serein Hydrating Mist, where it helps protect the integrity of their water-based formulations.
It binds trace metal ions that may otherwise contribute to oxidation, discolouration or ingredient degradation. It also complements the preservative systems, helping maintain product quality and consistency without affecting their lightweight textures.
Why AREUM Chose Sodium Levulinate and Sodium Anisate
We chose Sodium Phytate because the stability of a formulation is just as important as the ingredients selected for their benefits to the skin.
Its plant-derived origin, effectiveness at low concentrations and compatibility with water-based formulations make it a considered alternative to conventional chelating agents such as EDTA.
Although Sodium Phytate does not provide a primary skincare benefit, it serves an essential purpose behind the formulation: helping preserve the quality and integrity of the ingredients we carefully select.
