Castor Oil – Organic

Origin

Castor Oil is obtained from the seeds of Ricinus communis, a flowering plant cultivated in warm climates. The certified organic oil used by AREUM is cold pressed from the seeds, producing a naturally thick, pale oil with very little scent.

Unlike most botanical oils, Castor Oil has a fatty acid composition dominated by ricinoleic acid. This distinctive structure gives it its characteristic viscosity, cushion and ability to remain comfortably on the skin’s surface.

How AREUM Uses It

We use Organic Castor Oil in Petal Lip Oil, where it forms the nourishing foundation of the formulation.

Its rich, softly enveloping texture helps Petal glide smoothly across the lips and remain in place, creating lasting comfort and a naturally glossy finish. It works alongside camellia, jojoba, macadamia and marula oils to balance richness with softness and ease of application.

Why AREUM Chose Castor Oil

We chose Castor Oil because its unusual texture is particularly well suited to caring for the lips. While lighter botanical oils can absorb quickly, Castor Oil remains closer to the surface, forming a protective emollient layer that helps reduce moisture loss and soften dry, rough-feeling lips. It is recognised in cosmetics primarily for its skin-conditioning properties.

Its natural viscosity also gives Petal substance and staying power without relying on synthetic glossing agents or heavy waxes. It creates the smooth glide, gentle cushion and luminous finish we wanted while allowing the other botanical oils in the formulation to contribute their own nourishing qualities.

Within Petal, Castor Oil brings together function and sensory pleasure, helping the lips feel softer, conditioned and comfortably protected with every application.
