Vitamin E – Natural
Origin
Vitamin E is not a single compound, but a family of naturally occurring, oil-soluble antioxidants. The form used by AREUM is a natural blend of alpha, beta, gamma and delta tocopherols derived from highly refined soybeans and carried in sunflower seed oil.
This ingredient contains a maximum of 50% tocopherols, of which approximately 10% is alpha tocopherol. It is therefore different from pure alpha tocopherol or tocopheryl acetate, offering a broader mixture of naturally occurring vitamin E compounds.
How AREUM Uses It
We use Natural Vitamin E at 0.7% in Grace Facial Oil, where it works alongside bakuchiol, olive-derived squalane and jojoba, meadowfoam, rosehip, camellia and sea buckthorn oils.
It plays two complementary roles within Grace. On the skin, it contributes antioxidant and conditioning care. Within the formula, it helps slow the oxidation of the botanical oils, supporting the quality, colour and integrity of the blend over time.
Vitamin E is an antioxidant rather than a preservative. It helps protect oils from oxidation, but it does not provide the antimicrobial protection required in formulations containing water.
Why AREUM Chose Mixed Tocopherols
We chose mixed tocopherols rather than relying solely on alpha tocopherol because different forms of vitamin E provide complementary antioxidant activity. While alpha tocopherol is the most biologically active and widely recognised form, a broader spectrum—including beta, gamma and delta tocopherols—can offer more comprehensive protection against oxidation in cosmetic oils.
This blend is particularly important in Grace, which contains delicate botanical oils such as rosehip and sea buckthorn. Mixed tocopherols help protect these oxidation-sensitive ingredients while supporting the inherent stability of oils like jojoba, meadowfoam and squalane. We also use unesterified tocopherols rather than tocopheryl acetate, as they can function directly as antioxidants within the formula, supporting both skin and product stability.
